Project Description
The Department of Anesthesia at UCSF had a legacy website that was no longer keeping up with their content needs. Over the years additional pages were added to the site as needed, slowly creating a tangled content structure, with a design that showed its age.
Knowing what a world-class medical school UCSF is, I was very excited to bring their web presence to a standard that the brand deserves.
Our team met with the faculty there several times to understand the goals they had for the website — which to no surprise needed to serve multiple audiences at once. There are many uses-cases for visiting the UCSF website — some for faculty, some for students, researchers, etc.
Our goal from the outset was to take this great supply of content, and make it less overwhelming for a visitor. We used thick, blocks of color to give a sense of simplicity, and large opulent imagery for a fresh feeling. The color pallet used was in-line with broader UCSF brand standards, so we had some stylistic direction. From this brand starting point, we created a website intended to give personality to the department as an individual while also having a sense of belonging to the larger institution.
